Full Year Commitment
It is mandatory that those teachers who accept a job at Escuela
Bilingüe Honduras commit to the entire academic year. Aside from the
negative impact that leaving prematurely has upon students, finding an
English speaking teacher for replacement on short notice is extremely
difficult in Comayagua. We require a strong, personal commitment to
complete your contract.
- Working in our school is actually like working in any
other primary school or high school. Our students learn English as
their second language. The work load can be very intensive at times.
- The teachers work under a volunteer contract and therefore
do not need to obtain a resident visa. Instead, each month the teachers
renew their visa at the Comayagua immigration office. The school will
obtain the visas and pay the monthly fees.
- Due to immigration office's purposes, teachers are required to bring their police record with them. The police record must be stamped or signed by the secretary of state from the state where you reside.
Canadians
must request from local Police Office their police record and let them
know that it is for international purposes (they may give you one from
the RCMP). However, the OPP record is enough. This document must be
taken to the Honduran Embassy to get it stamped or verified. The
embassy will charge $85.
- The school calendar roughly coincides with the academic
calendar in the United States . All the teachers are expected to be in
Comayagua by August 11th, 2006 . Although, the exact date of the last day of classes is determined annually, teachers are required to stay until the end of June.
- The school day begins at 7.00 a.m. and ends
at 3.00 p.m. There are a total of ten 40 minute classes, with a 20
minute recess after fourth period and a 30 minute lunch break after
seventh period. Teachers instruct 7 to 8 classes a day.
- Listed below are the dates of the school holidays. If a
holiday falls on a weekend, it will be observed either on the preceding
Friday or the following Monday.
